Jig Hook Sets
By
Wayne Koepp
Jigs usually have the eye of the hook in line with the point. If you use a jig that has the eye 90 degrees to the hook point, you will get a better hook set. When you set the hook with the inline eye, you tend to release the hook from the fish's mouth.
When you use the 90 degree eye jig and set the hook, it will drive the hook deeper into the fish instead of the release tendency of the inline eye. Some brands of the 90 degree eye are Shaky Head by Strike King, Big Bite Stinger by Bass Pro Shops and Chompers by Tablerock Bait and Tackle Co.
